Rather, a cloud is a metaphor for how to house software and data. Instead of being localized on a single computer in a home or in a single system at a business, data are stored on a network. Figuratively speaking, that network hangs in the air and is available to any computer with Internet access... Some companies, however, focus exclusively on the software needed for a transition to cloud platforms. One of those companies is DocCenter of Omaha. DocCenter launched a program called DocLanding at the DEMOfall08 technology conference in September. DocLanding allows users to store and share files online, eliminating the need for rooms full of servers and storage space." |
