Securities America Inc.
Fortune 300 National Brokerage Company

Firm Saves Funds and Good Will by Integrating DocLanding Technology into Existing Systems

Company: A Fortune 300 national brokerage company that provides back-office services to independent representatives.

Challenge:
Within two months, provide a new browser-based image viewer integrated with existing systems, including a non-browser-based version of the FileNet document management system. Replace a viewer causing complaints of slow response in a software package intended to attract and grow the firm's network of representatives.

Results:
DOCCENTER's understanding of the firm's existing FileNet and eOffice systems and use of its DocLanding Image Viewer software enabled on-time deployment of a system with appropriate image rendering response time.

Impact:
The solution saved the firm $310,000 compared to the alternative of upgrading to FileNet's Web version.  Representatives noticed an immediate and significant improvement in system responsiveness when documents were rendered.  The firm confidently markets its eOffice solution to new and existing representatives, spurring revenue growth for the organization.

DOCCENTER helped Securities America, a Fortune 300 financial services firm, retain the good will of its independent investment representatives when an issue arose with a new internally developed software system.

The firm had deployed the system, eOffice, to help its independent investment representatives manage correspondence, account forms, legal documents, compliance documents, and other information.  While the firm had hoped to use the new system as a key marketing tool to attract and grow the firm's representative base, an issue began frustrating the representatives.

Part of the eOffice system's functionality was to render and display images of documents residing locally on a non-browser-based version of the document management system FileNet.  Resolving the differences between the two platforms was difficult, and soon after eOffice was deployed, numerous representatives began calling with complaints that the image rendering was too slow.

The firm was concerned that this issue would create frustration among representatives and slow revenue growth.  However, the firm estimated that upgrading the FileNet system to a browser-based version would cost more than $350,000 in new hardware and software.

As an alternative, the firm turned to DOCCENTER to recommend a solution retaining the existing FileNet version and hardware infrastructure.  The firm required design and implementation of a solution within two months.

DOCCENTER modified and integrated its DocLanding image viewer with the eOffice application.  Searches for documents are performed through eOffice's searching function.  The results are displayed as links in eOffice.  When the user clicks a link, the DocLanding viewer retrieves the document's ID, converts the image from a PDF or TIFF format to a JPEG, and then renders the image in a browser-based viewer.

DOCCENTER's understanding of the firm's eOffice and FileNet systems resulted in the delivery of the DocLanding browser-based image viewer within the firm's requested timeline.   Representatives noticed an immediate and significant improvement in system responsiveness when documents were rendered.  The firm confidently markets its eOffice solution to new and existing representatives, spurring revenue growth for the organization.   Instead of paying the $350,000 in software and hardware costs required for the browser-based version of FileNet, the firm paid $39,570 in project costs to DOCCENTER, realizing a savings of $310,000.
