General FAQ

What is DocLanding?

DocLanding is an on-demand document depot allowing you to centralize, retrieve, manage, share and unshare documents with others in a Web environment. After uploading your documents, DocLanding allows you to securely file, search and retrieve the information online and share it with virtually anyone in your business chain. With DocLanding, you're in control. You control who you share information with, when and for how long both inside and outside your company.

And the best part--it's designed for the average user. Built for entrepreneurs, by entrepreneurs, DocLanding is intuitive and simple to use for you, your staff and remote users who are vital to your company's success.

Your electronic documents, which may be almost any type of computer files, are safe from loss or theft. DocLanding's professional document management tools help you organize your company's information so that you can find what you need in seconds and share documents with authorized users.

DocLanding eliminates two of the major concerns most small and midmarket firms have about document management solutions: application complexity and financial investment.

Unlike other products that are too complex or lack essential document management features, DocLanding offers robust functionality in a user-friendly manner. DocLanding delivers the ease of use of a file storage solution while providing the structure of a complex document and file management solution--all at a fraction of the cost charged by our competitors. DocLanding requires little or no training with no software to install. Since DOCCENTER delivers functionality over the Internet, you and your staff can use DocLanding immediately for uploading, searching, managing and sharing documents and files.

What is a POINT?

A POINT (Personal Online INformation Terminal) is your private online area to store, retrieve and manage documents. DocLanding features virtual file cabinets to categorize information just as if you were using a physical file cabinet. You can set up and manage as many file cabinets as you need, and each file cabinet's authorized users can work with their contents at the access level you establish. DocLanding enables you to add folders and various levels of subfolders inside the virtual file cabinets. You can then navigate to your files in a familiar "tree-view" structure. You can also locate files with a simple keyword search or a more advanced search tool.

When you securely share a file, folder or file cabinet, the recipient receives an email enabling setup of a free DocLanding POINT through which the recipient accesses the information with the specific rights you set. (If you share an item to an email address the system already has on file for a DocLanding user, an email alerts the recipient to log into the recipient's POINT to access newly shared information.) Once someone has a DocLanding POINT, the user can then easily share files, folders, and file cabinets with you. You can also create a POINT for your personal document storage. When you log into your POINT, the items shared with you from any other POINT are immediately accessible - there is no need to remember multiple logins on multiple systems to access all the information you need. And, the items you share with others are under your control - you can remove access to any shared item with a few clicks of a mouse.

What does DocLanding do to help protect my credit card information?

No information about your credit card is actually stored on our server. The full account number is stored on a PCI DSS compliant server run by PayPal. Our system simply stores a reference to this account number, which can only be used with our merchant account and password.

How long can I store my data on DocLanding?

Data can be stored for as long as you'd like. There are no limitations on the length of time as long as your membership is maintained by paying your monthly fees. We want you to think of DocLanding as your document depot for life.

How are my data and the Web site protected against system failures?

The DocLanding application and all data are "mirrored" on other servers. As you save files or make changes in your DocLanding POINT, the application periodically updates the mirrored information. If a system failure occurs, the application will seamlessly switch over to the other servers until any issues on the primary servers are resolved. These and other layers of redundancy in our system provide reliably high system uptime.

We also make nightly backups of data that are taken to an off-site location.

How safe is my data?

DocLanding protects your data with leading industry-standard security measures including 128-bit SSL encryption, user roles that control access and permissions, and location of the repository at a "hardened" co-location facility. Furthermore, all file content stored on DocLanding is encrypted.

How do I send large files to someone?

Files too large for standard e-mail server limits are not a problem for DocLanding. DocLanding contains a feature that lets you share files with anyone who has an e-mail address. When you share a file, the recipient receives an email with a link. When the recipient clicks the link or enters it in the address field of a browser, he or she gets access to the shared file according to the permissions you set. You can set the shared file so the user can both read and edit it within DocLanding or view a read-only version. For added control, you can also set a time limit for the sharing.

How do I get more storage space?

The amount of storage space you can get in the DocLanding document depot is virtually unlimited. You can use as much storage as you need and you will be billed for the storage used at the end of the month. With our Software as a Service (SaaS) model, you pay as you go and you can change plans at any time. Refer to our Pricing page for details.

Who has access to my files?

As the owner of your POINT (Personal Online INformation Terminal), you have rights to access all files within it at any time. If you securely share files, folders or file cabinets with others, they can access only those shared items, and then only according to the rights you have given them for each specific item. When you share items, you can specify how long you want the "share" to last.

For folders and file cabinets, you can provide rights to create, view, modify and/or delete items within the folder or file cabinet.

For files, you can provide the right to view and download the document and the optional ability to edit the document and upload it as a new version.
For documents that do not need to be shared securely, you can send as an email attachment a file or files with a total file size of up to 10 MB.

You have the option of setting up another user as administrator of POINT. An administrator has all the rights of the POINT owner except for ability to unlock any file. Furthermore, an administrator cannot change the rights of the POINT owner.
